Another Day in Dar

We spent a great day today in Dar es Salaam! It started out in the morning with the CARE meeting that included Dr. Helene Gayle (President and CEO of CARE) as well as many board members. It continued in the afternoon with a trip to a small island (uninhabited by humans, protected marine park) that is just off the shore. The island was beautiful, with crystal clear water, and the snorkeling was amazing (colorful fish, urchins, coral etc.). Another cool part about the island is that locals will catch you fresh fish and fry it up for you. We ate fried barracuda and believe it or not, it was very good. After returning from an exhausting time on the island we did a little shopping and ate dinner at a local shopping/restaurant complex called The Slipway. The great thing about The Slipway is that it has lots of shops where locals are selling their crafts and the prices are good.
Tomorrow we will be off to Mwanza, which everyone says is cooler than Dar (did I mention that Dar is like 100 degrees with humidity?). Can't wait!

Wow! Sounds a lot warmer in Tanzania than here in VA. We had 4 inches of snow yesterday. Eat some fish for me. (Remember the good fish we had on our way back from El Tahin in Mexico?)
Take care, and say "hi" to Mary for me.
